Season 2012 is go..
The 2012 British Superbike Championship is underway after back to back
races at Brands Hatch and Thruxton. We have had mixed weather conditions
at both rounds for practice and qualifying which has made it difficult
but the samsung Honda team has worked well and we have managed to gain
two podium finishes from the first 2 races.
Brands was a good weekend for us leading the way through practice and
running in P2 in our qualifying session which eventually put me 4th on
the grid for Mondays race. There was over 60 entrys for Brands so the
organisers had to split us into 2 groups which made it difficult with
the changing weather conditions. The grid was formed by taking the
overall fastest time from both session and putting them on pole then
going one for one from group A and B.
The race was held under wet conditions and my Honda worked fantastic, I
was a little worried going into the race as last year we struggled in
the wet so to be the fastest man on track during the mid part of the
race and come away with a podium was a credit to the work we have done
in pre season testing and gave me a lot of confidence going forwards.
Thruxton started well for us and I was right up there in all practice
and Qualifying sessions, Again we had over 50 entrys but this time we
all qualified together which made it hard to find clear space on track,
I ended up on the front row in 4th, I was happy to be on the front row
for sundays race but also dissapointed after having the fastest Ideal
time but not beeing able to put a complete lap together due to traffic.
Race day was dry and I was ready for it, I got away good and led through
turn one after having a big moment I lost a position and dropped back to
second, Then the safety car was out and it stayed out for 3 laps. After
the safety car period I really struggled for the first 2 laps dropping
right down to 9th at one point I was suffering with rear grip issues and
it was difficult to ride around as it was entry grip and initial exit
grip that I was struggling with, I stayed calm and worked my way back
through the field to finish with another podium in 3rd 0.3 from the
winner. We have some solid points after the first 2 rounds and I am
looking forward to gaining momentum in the coming races and going after
our first win of the season.
